Richard L. “Bucky” Ball, Jr, 84, of Elmendorf, was called home to the Lord on February 13, 2017. During his last few weeks, he was surrounded by family and friends.
Bucky was born to the late Richard and Katie Ball, February 15, 1932, in Elmendorf, Texas. He was a proud retired member of the 62d artillery of the United States Army. On August 31, 1952 he married Minnie, the love of his life, in Elmendorf.
Bucky never met a stranger. His greatest joy in life, second to his family, was talking to anybody at any time about any subject. For the last few decades of his life, he and Minnie discovered the joy of horses. As members of the U.S. Marshals Posse and Jack Sellars Bexar County Palomino Patrol and Drill Team, they participated many times in the Stock Show and Rodeo. They also went on numerous trail rides and to competitions over the years and met many life-long friends along the way. Bucky, a long-time resident of Elmendorf, also enjoyed being involved with his church and spent many years on the city council.
Bucky is survived by his wife Minnie, his siblings Elizabeth “Muzzie” and Johnny, his three sons and their wives: Larry and Davene, Garry and Nancie, and Bernie ("Bingee") and Laurie, as well as seven grandchildren (April, Chelsea, Nicole, Katie, Joshua, Garreth and Cameron) and four great-grandchildren (McKynna, Kieryn, Drayton and Xadkiel).
Visitation will be held at Mission Park South Tuesday, February 21, from 6pm-9pm with a rosary at 7pm. Memorial services will be held at St. Anthony’s Parish in Elmendorf Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations sent to www.VITASCommunityConnection.org or VITAS Healthcare at 8401 Datapoint, Suite 300, San Antonio, Texas 78229.
