Anna Mae (nee Canty) Balling, age 87, of Alden, formerly of North Tonawanda, died Thursday, December 30, 2004 at the Erie County Home and Infirmary in Alden, after a long illness. Born September 13, 1917 in Batavia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (nee Green) Canty, and had been employed as a registered nurse before retiring. Mrs. Balling was a member of Ascension R.C. Church while she was living in North Tonawanda. She was the wife of the late Leonard T. Balling, who died in 1975, and mother of the late Bernard and Thomas Balling.
She is survived by four daughters, Lenore Thompson, Jean (Charles) Ryan, Joan (Gregory) Post, and Deborah Balling; and two sons, William Balling and Kenneth (Maryann) Balling. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Sunday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Monday at Ascension R.C. Church on Robinson Street in North Tonawanda. Friends invited. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in the Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to the Wende Guild at the Erie County Home, 11580 Walden Avenue, Alden, NY 14004, are preferred by the family.
