Gladys Allen, 74, formerly of Acton

ROME, Maine — Gladys Allen, 74, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at her home following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late James E. Allen, who died in 1992.

She was born in Concord, on Sept. 9, 1927, the daughter of the late Clesson and Gladys (Morse) Bancroft. Mrs. Allen lived most of her life in Acton before moving to Maine in 1986.

For several years, Mrs. Allen was employed at the Emerson Hospital in Concord.

She was a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Massachusetts, and was a member of the D.A.R. in Farmington, Maine. She was also a member of the Rome Ruff Riders Snowmobile Club.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ann Bancroft of Littleton; a niece and nephew; and many grandnieces, grandnephews; great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held at the Brookside Cemetery in Rome, Maine, later in the spring.
