Bert was born to George Matthew Bancroft and Amanda C. Minor Bancroft. He was the grandson of William W. and Maria (Webb) Minor. He married Ava Sarah Beringer in about 1892. He was a Dry Goods Merchant. The couple had one daughter, Averil B. and three sons, Delbert W., Charles Claude and Carroll K. Bert was born and lived at Menomonee when he was young and then moved to Waukesha where he and Ava lived out their lives. Bert, Ava and their four children are all buried in Prairie Home Cemetery.
