Alice Lucille Barber, 95, Medford, a former long-time Tulelake resident, died Aug. 5, 1997 in Medford.

Mrs. Barber was born in Colorado to Lorenzo and Stella (Wiley) Fry.

She was raised in Phoenix, graduating from high school there.

She met Lloyd Barber while working as a long distance operator and they were married on the banks of Bear Creek in 1922.

The family moved around the state to accommodate her job with the telephone company.

They lived in Portland and moved to Hebo, where they owned and operated a service station and motel. When they moved to Cottage Grove, they owned and operated several service stations and a mink farm.

In 1942, the family moved to Tulelake and owned and operated the Tulelake Hardware Store until 1974.

After the death of her husband, Mrs. Barber retired to Medford to be closer to her brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Bill Staunton, Fall River Mills, Calif., gandchildren Web and Karen Staunton and Barbera and Roger Hyytinen; six great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
