Ellen was the daughter of Thomas Burfoot and Olive Walke. She married Alfred in Washington, D.C. on 26 September 1879. They had at least eight children: Wilmer McCabe, Lillian Corbin, Alline Burfoot, Alfred Prentis, Walter Burfoot, Travis David, Fitzhugh McCabe, and Keith Taylor.
