NOTE: He was left an orphan at 12 yr of age, and in 1859 he went to live with his eldest sister, Mrs. E.E. (Nancy Cassanna Barksdale) Middleton of Midway, MS. He enlisted 21 Aug 1861 in CO. G, 4th MS Infantry at Grenada, and was sent to Union City TN, then to Ft Henry where, after three months service, he was honorably discharged as unfit for further service at that time, he being then in poor health and under age. In Sept 1863 he again enlisted, this time in Troop F, 5th MS Cavalry, under the command of General N.B. Forrest, in which he served until the close of the war. After the was he returned to MS and engaged in farming, operating plantations near Myrlville, Bentonia and Dover, in Yazoo Co.
