Trentonian, The (Trenton, NJ) - Wednesday, July 13, 2005

Born and educated in Irwin County, Ga., Mrs. Armstrong was a resident of Trenton for over 65 years.

When she and her husband, the late Nathaniel Armstrong, moved to Trenton, they joined Bethlehem Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. G.W. Porter, and served on the Deacon and Deaconess boards.

Mrs. Armstrong was also a former member of Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. E.A. Davis and of Mt. Sinai Seventh Day Adventist Church in Trenton, where she served on the Deaconess Board and sang in the choir. Although she never officially joined the Wayne Avenue Baptist Church family, they were always there to minister to her spiritual needs.

Reverta retired in 1975 from the State of New Jersey Trenton Psychiatric Hospital, where she was employed as a dietary technician for many years.
She was previously employed by the former Stacy Trent Hotel and the Beverly Tea Room of Trenton and the Nassau Inn in Princeton.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Leona Lavern, three brothers, Charlie, Luther and Jerry Barnes, and two sisters, Luverta Barnes-Greene and Janie Barnes-Williams.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her daughter, Rosa Lee Griffin of Trenton; a granddaughter, Lenora Jefferson (Robert) of Ewing; five great-grandchildren, Christopher Armstrong (Denise) of Trenton, Kimberly Hallback (fiancé, Demetrius Thompson) of Virginia Beach, Va., Robert Jefferson of Princeton, Darren and Niajah Jefferson, both of Ewing; four great-grandchildren, Petice and Ricko Burton, and Khadir Armstrong, all of Trenton, and Devon Maynard of Orange; a special friend and caregiver, Yolanda Harvey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
