She was born in New London, on Oct. 5, 1937, daughter of the late Horace L. and Mildred F. Barnum.
She graduated in 1956 from Williams Memorial Institute in New London, and in 1961 from Lesley College in Cambridge, Mass. For several years she taught first grade in the Ledyard school system.
She is survived by her cherished son, Stephen, resident of a group home in Hamden; and her brothers, H. Gardiner Barnum and his wife, Erika, of South Burlington, Vt., and Charles Barnum and his wife, Florence, of Brookfield, Vt.; her sister, Charlotte and her husband, Duncan Olding, of Groton; as well as by several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was predeceased by her good friend and companion, Wallace Trolan.
