Mrs. Ruth C. Alexander, 72, wife of Harry S. Alexander, RD 1, Meadville, died at 8:45 p.m. Monday July 3, 1961, at Spencer Hospital after an illness of several months. The couple made their home on Pettis Road in East Mead Township. Formerly active in the Pennsylvania YWCA, Mrs. Alexander taught public school for several years in California, PA. She was a graduate of California State Normal School and Emerson College in Boston, and attended Goucher College in Baltimore. She was born in Washington County January 28, 1889, a daughter of Samuel A. and Sara Jane Anderson Barnum. She married Alexander April 21, 1920. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Wallace (Ruth Ann) Hanson of Glenshaw and two grandchildren, Dean and William Hanson. Services were held at the Waid Funeral Home with Rev. Richard E. Rusbuldt, pastor of Wayland Baptist Church. Interment was in Washington, PA.
