TRAVERSE CITY — D. Elaine Ackerman, 76, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home Thursday morning, Jan. 10, 2008.
Born April 14, 1931, in Jackson, she was the daughter of the late Fred L. and Beulah (Frye) Barnum.
Elaine may be remembered by many as the former owner and operator of Eastfield Laundromat.
Elaine was a long time devoted Jehovah Witness.
She had a strong love of nature and animals. Elaine was a very kind, gentle and loving lady who was very gifted and interested in helping others. Her presence will be truly missed by many.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, whom Elaine adored, Rhonda (Larry) Elliott of Kingsley and Linda (Dan) Pike of Adrian; one grandson, Danny Pike Jr.; nieces and nephews, Pat (Ron) Sheldon, Tom (Kim) Barnum, Nancy Barnum, Sheryl Barnum and a very special niece, Diane Squires.
In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by a son, Harold Ackerman Jr.; brother, Philip T. Barnum; and sister, Lucile Civalier.
Services will by held at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at the Jehovah's Witnesses-Kingdom Hall, 1950 Chase Road (off Hartman), Traverse City. Forrest Locke will officiate. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held this spring at Barnum Cemetery in Mayfield. Service information will be announced closer to the date.
