Ezra Barnum was born In Alford, Mass., May 9, 1825, and died In Gaylordsville, Conn., Jan, 14, 1899. When twenty-one years old he came to Kent, Conn. to work on a farm. In 1852, he was married to Miss Sarah Benedict, a successful teacher in Kent, and returning to Alford bought the family homestead. This union was blessed with two children, the oldest, a son, Kirby, dying in infancy. The daughter, Mrs. A. C. Clark, is a resident of New Milford. In 1855 Mr. Barnum bought a farm In Kent, where he returned to live. Five years later his wife died. In 1864 he was married to Miss Henriette Sherwood, daughter of Squire Sherwood, of New Milford. Three daughters brought Joy to their home. In 1878, under the pastorate of the Rev. R. F. the eldest, Mary, with her father, sought Christ, and both accepted him as their Savior. Mary died in 1892. The widow and three daughters—Mrs. A. C. Clark, Mrs. W. P. Newton, and Miss Agnes survive him. Mr. Barnum held Important offices in the church at Gaylordsville. of which he was a member. His good Judgment and Integrity and kindness of heart made him esteemed as a friend and neighbor. After suffering for one week with pleurisy the summons came, and he entered into the Joy of his Lord.
