Family Tribute

Barbara J. Barr (1934-2012)

Family and friends of Barbara J. Barr will gather on May 5, 2012 to remember her with a Celebration of Life. Tributes and memories start at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch at the EPUD Meeting Room, 33733 Seavey Loop Rd., Eugene, OR. Barbara died March 24, 2012.

Barbara was born March 7, 1934 to Henry and Louise (Green) VanLoh in Lime, Oregon. She grew up and attended schools in Salem, Oregon; graduating from Salem High School in 1952. She would tell you the best thing that ever happened in her life was meeting the man of her dreams on a blind date June 10, 1950. Bill Barr was just as certain that theirs was a love that would last forever so they said their "I Do's" on December 29, 1950 and loved, laughed and shared their dream together until Bill's death in November 2003.

An interest in cake decorating in 1971 became a family tradition. Weddings, birthdays and baby showers for the next 40 years featured a cake made by Barbara. Her hands were usually busy crocheting, knitting or sewing, and nothing gave her more joy than welcoming another grandchild or great-grandchild with a handmade treasure. She was a charter member of the Holiday Happenings Collectors Club and an avid collector of Hallmark ornaments and figurines, Barb looked forward to attending annual conventions and her monthly meetings.

Barbara and Bill enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives. They also loved roller coasters and amusement parks; a sweet reminder of their courtship days at Janzten Beach Park. Barb was a proud survivor of Splash Mountain, California Screamin', Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Demon and the Tidal Wave; showing us all that the ride is never too rough, too wet or too wild if it's shared with those you love.

Barbara is survived by her children: Sue Holmes (Bill), Debbie Hall (Daryl), Steve (Linda), Vicki Black and 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
