Mary Dean Barrat, 92, of Martinsburg, died Saturday at Outlook Pointe at Martinsburg, WV.

Mrs. Barrat, born in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, was the daughter of the late John Wesley, Sr. and Daisy May Schill Dean and the widow of actor, Robert Harriot Barrat, who were married August 25, 1966. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Wesley Dean, Jr., Herbert Belt Dean and George Schill Dean.

After public schools,she attended Shepherd College and West Virginia University, where she received her A.B. and A.M. degrees. Her majors were Speech and English. She taught in the Berkeley County School system for thirty one years. In 1942, she was asked to start a speech class at Martinsburg High School. She taught it and English until she retired in 1964.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was active in teaching and singing in the choir. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary and the Guild. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Green Hill Cemetery Co., having served as secretary of the board for 22 years. She was a member of American Associates of University Women; the William Henshaw Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; P.E.O.; and Colonial Dames of the 17th Century.

She is survived by a niece, Ann Dean Mitchell of Greenville, PA; and three nephews, John W. Dean III of Los Angeles, CA; George Darby Dean and Robert S. Dean both of Martinsburg, WV.

Friends may call at the Brown Funeral Home January 29, 2001.

The family received friends 10-11am, Tuesday, January 30, 2001 prior to services at the church.

The funeral services were held at 11am, Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jack T. Sutor officiating.

Burial was made in Green Hill Cemetery, Martinsburg, WV.
