Alice "Bana" Barra of Brawley passed away July 29 at home of natural causes. She was 72 years old.

Alice was born in Brawley on May 25, 1933. Bana worked for Pioneers Memorial Hospital for 40 years as a central supply clerk and received numerous awards for her hard work and loyalty.

She enjoyed watching her family participate in sports. Many friends addressed her as their second mom and grandma because of her kind, giving and always smiling personality. She adored her beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her sense of humor and always was a hard worker, putting her family first and always being there for her family. She always looked forward to her group meetings with friends.

Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, August 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church in Brawley. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 4, at 8 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church in Brawley with Father Gerardo Fernandez. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Alice was preceded in death by her father, Pacifico Barra; mother, Genoveva Ruiz Barra; sisters, Rosa Garcia and Lupe Barra; and brother, Pacifico Barra Jr.

She is survived by her son, Robert Galvan of Brawley; son and fiance, JJ Galvan and Stella Sanchez of Brawley; sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Stella Galvan of Brawley, Mark and Mirtha Barra and Leonard and Jackie Barra of Imperial, Paul and Ivonne Galvan of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters and sons-in-law, Geraldine and Marcus Tapia and Vivian and Eddie Padilla of Brawley, Debra and Johnny Carrillo of Imperial; brothers, Manuel, John, Paul and Joe Barra of Brawley; sister, Rosie Rubio of Brawley; grandchildren, Marcus Jr., Justin, Derek, E.J., J.R., Todd, Tyler, Chris, Micah, Eric Jr., Luke, Mark Jr., Alexis, Jade, Monique, Shelby, Shannon and Brittney; and great-grandchildren David and Darek Tapia.
