SOLDIER AND PATRIOT, "Frank", (as he was called to differentiate him from his father and grandfather, also named "Benjamin,") came to Minnesota in 1854 with his parents and siblings. He lived on the Northfield farmstead of his parents until the outbreak of the Civil War when he enlisted. Within weeks of enlistment, he was at Fort Snelling when his unit was ordered into Minnesota's Indian uprising crisis--the Sioux Uprising of 1962. With the Indian attacks and predations in southern Minnesota, he was actively involved with his unit in defense of American settlements in southern Minnesota. On August 19, 1962 he joined Co. "C" of the 9th MN Infantry. Died less than two years later while in Military Service at Fort Ridgely, Fairfax, Minnesota. He was another casualty of the Indian Wars.
