Obituary - Fremont Tribune - 26 December 2002
The funeral for Albert J. Barton, 78, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. He died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at his home. He was born July 3, 1924, in Brewster. He moved with his family to Fremont in 1928. His first job was setting pins at a Fremont bowling alley. He moved to the state of Washington and was a lumberjack before entering the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, he worked at Dehy Alfalfa Mill for 10 years and then worked at Consolidated Blenders, both in Fremont. He was employed at Magnus Metals in Fremont for 33 years, retiring in 1989. He married Delores L. Churchill April 9, 1951, in Fremont. She died Jan. 19, 1997. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854 and American Legion Post 20, both of Fremont, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 200 of Fremont. He was a Golden Glove Champion when he was a young man. Survivors include: two sons, Dan (and wife, Marianne) Aman of Slidell, La., and Jack Aman of Crete; a daughter, Deborah "Debs" (Mrs. Daniel) Matulka of David City; three sisters-in-law, Marcy Barton of Fremont, Arlene (Mrs. Bob) Conaway of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Norma Churchill of Elizabethton, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Bob (and wife, Ann) Churchill of Gravity, Iowa; two grandchildren and a great-grandson. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law. The Rev. Owen Korte of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont will officiate Saturday's service. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, all at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with the military graveside services conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post 854 and American Legion Post 20.
