Cornelia is the mother of Katherine Lee Bates, William Bates Jr, and also Jane Bates who lived from 1851 to 1928. She can be found on the 1860 and 1870 census for Falmouth with children: Jennie, Samuel and Katie (Katherine).

Diantha C. Lee legally changed her name to Cornelia Frances Lee on April 26, 1847.

Cornelia F., widow of the late Rev. William Bates of this town, aged 81 years. Funeral services were held from the First Congregational church here on Thursday, January 23, Rev. Frank W. Hazen officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.

Mrs. Bates leaves two sons, Arthur L. Bates, vice-president of the Union Mutual Life Insurance company, of Portland, Me., and Samuel L. Bates of Camden, N.J., senior member of the firm of Bates & Culley, organ builders, of Philadelphia, Pa. She also leaves two daughters, Jennie L. Bates, and Prof. Katherine Lee Bates of Wellesley college, Mass.

Rev. William Bates was installed pastor of the First Congregational church in this town June 10, 1858, and died here September 10, 1859.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Bates and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bates and son, Miss Jennie Bates and Miss Katherine Lee Bates attended the burial services here Thursday.
