From an 1894 Nance County, Nebraska, newspaper clipping file, publication date unknown, transcribed by Linda Berney:

Albert B. Bates, a young man well known in Fullerton and Nance county, died at 2 o'clock on Wednesday morning after a brief illness of not more than a week's duration, at the Central house in this city. Pneumonia was the disease, and its work was terribly swift. Deceased was born at Dodgeville, Wisconsin, May 23, 1859, and removed with his parents to Martin county, Minn. in 1862. He came to
Fullerton in 1884, and has since resided here, being engaged in the well-boring business. Two years ago his parents removed to Denver, and although notified of
his illness, did not arrive before the end came. His sister, Mrs. A. L. Bixby of Lincoln, was telegraphed for on Tuesday by her husband, who arrived Monday night, but owing to bad train connections, she did not reach here until some
hours after her brother's death on Wednesday morning.

A long obit from another clipping had the following additional information:
Bates - Died at Fullerton March 14th, 1894 at 2:30 a.m. of typhoid pneumonia,
Albert B. Bates....he was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. David Bates. There were two sisters, one having died in early life, the other, Mrs. A. L. Bixby being the only child left to the afflicted parents....During all these years the deceased remained unmarried and stood loyal to his parents, and was their chief reliance in the approaching winter of life. The parents sold their property in this city about two years ago and sought a new home in Colorado near Denver. The son still longed to be near his parents and had not long since visited them in their new home and was seeking to so arrange his business that he might join them permanently in the near future....
