Alice was the 1st wife of Henry Young Bates. They married 10 Sep 1879 in Sarpy County, Nebraska and had the following known children: Harry Bernard, Bret Verne, Merton Ong, Estella, Bernice, and Joseph.

Alice died at the age of 50 years 9 months.

Henry married Bertha Boettger in 1907 and had two more children.

Mrs. Dr. H. Y. Bates of Belgrade died last Thursday after a week's illness with peritonitis. Her remains were taken to her former home at Springfield, Neb. for interment.
