Hazel Juanita (Bates) Armstrong

SILVERTON — Hazel Juanita (Bates) Armstrong, 92, of Silverton, WV, went to be with the Lord on October 11, 2008, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, following an extended illness.

She was born October 26, 1915 in Sherman, a daughter of the late Bert and Ona (Flinn) Bates. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dale Armstrong; daughter, Eloise, and an infant son, Darrell, three sisters, and four brothers.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to all. She was a former employee of Crow's Grocery, and Grant's both in Ravenswood. She enjoyed gardening, was a homemaker, a Methodist.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Edra Wells, and Norma Jean and Herman Fox all of Silverton; granddaughter, Charlene Armstrong and her husband, Cliff of Silverton; grandsons, Garry Wells and his wife Dee, and Roger Hinzman all of Silverton; eight great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; brother, Clyde "Brownie" Bates of Wilding.

Services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Casto Funeral Home, Ravenswood, WV, with the Rev. Lawrence Conger, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Independence Cemetery, Sandyville. Visitation was observed from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
