Mrs. Julia Gladys Batten Arnold age 93 of Blackshear died Monday evening at the Pierce County Nursing Home following an extended illness.

A native of Ware County, Georgia and a daughter to the late George Washington Batten and Julia Maria Thrift,
also preceded in death by 3 husbands:
Rommie Lee Brown, Benjamin Claude Arnold, and Brooker Morgan,
her daughter's Gladys O'Neil, Alice A. Sharpe, Julia Woodard,
and her brother's Walter Batten, Otis Batten, and Wilbur Batten.

She had lived many years in South Florida before moving to Pierce County in 1985 and was a retired waitress from Howard Johnson's in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was a member of Youmans Chapel Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Anise Almeeda Smith of Woodward, Oklahoma,

Joseph W. Brown( wife Doris ) of Gainesville, Fl.,
Ronald E. Brown (wife Nora) of Blackshear,
James S. Brown of Memphis, Tn.,
a daughter in law Barbara Brown of Benson, N.C.,

17 grandchildren,
several great grandchildren,
and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday (February 7, 2008) in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Enon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Smith Funeral Home in Blackshear.
