August's remains were recovered in 1992 and he is now interred in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

August served as a First Lieutenant on B-25J #43-28134, 498th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in New Jersey prior to the war.

August was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-25, which took off on a mission from the U.S. airbase in Tacloban, Leyte, disappeared and was presumed to have been shot down and crashed at sea during the war.

In 1992 the wreckage of this B-25 was found on Sibuyan Island in the Philippines.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
