Louisa was youngest of nine children born to Philip Baumgardner & Elizabeth Chester. She married her first cousin John B. Baumgardner in 1849, Cabell Co., Va. (WV). They had the following children: Francis Alonzo, William L., Ellis (who died young), Charles Albert and Cora Virginia.
She and her husband John, sons Francis, Charles and possiby Ellis are all buried here in unmarked graves. A son William is also buried here, but his grave is marked. It is probable that a marker existed at one time, but this cemetery is very old and has been vandalized in the past. Very few markers are left in the oldest part of the cemetery and elderly locals all say they remember tombstones being there when they were children.
Louisa's life, albeit simple, was witness to the town of Barboursville growing from nothing into a friendly village; the Civl War, of which her husband was a soldier; the hustle and bustle of the family run motel and tavern; and the daily struggle of survival during that era. She lived to the ripe old age of 70 years, 10 months and 18 days.
