Son of John B. Baumgardner & Louisa C. Baumgardner, spouse of Augusta (Olga) Merritt. Fathered six children of which two died young, one died at the age of 19, and three grew to adulthood. The names of his children were Florence, Mary E., John W., Unnamed, Alonzo C. & Elwood.
William operated the family motel and taven when his father became to old to run the establishment himself. This motel was known as the Logan House and later changed to the Gibson House in honor of Eustace Gibson. The Logan House was located on the NE Corner of Main Street and Water Street, the present location of the Thornburg House.
