Sarah Eleanor Atkinson, age 80, of Lumberton, NC died at her home on Friday, October 7, 2016. She was born in Tarheel, NC on May 28, 1936 to the late Corbett and Marian Grimes Baxley. She retired from Gerber, and has been a crossing guard at Rowland Norment Elementary School for the past 11 years. She has been a seamstress in the Lumberton area for over 45 year.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Major Bass, Sr., and her second husband, Robert Erris Atkinson, Sr..

Mrs. Atkinson is survived by two sons, Robbie Bass (Susan) of St. Pauls, and Mike Bass, Sr. of Lumberton; one daughter, Ramona Kinlaw of Wilmington; step-children, Roslyn Roberson (Ray) of Walterboro, SC, Jowanna Cox (Rufus) of Lumberton and Robert Erris Atkinson of Lancaster, SC; a brother, Bobby Baxley; three sisters, Peggy Bray, Sue Smith, and Carol Davis (Jimmy); nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street in Lumberton.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton with Rev. David Hawes officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery.

I lieu of flowers memorials are encouraged to be made to the Godwin Heights Baptist Church Lottie Moon Missionary Fund, 704 Godwin Avenue, Lumberton, NC 28358.
