1st Scottish Rifles No. 201543) was a private in 1st Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). He was born in Elgin and was the younger son of Thomas Baxter, Draper & Margaret Grime of The Grange, Seafield Crescent, Elgin. Charles was a warehouseman; he joined at Glasgow in October 1915 and served in France. He suffered from trench feet in 1917 and shrapnel wound in his neck in March 1918. He was killed in action at Gouzeaucourt, 21st September 1918, aged 34 years. He is buried in Targelle Ravine British Cemetery, Villers-Guislain, France(row G, grave 29) and is commemorated on Elgin War Memorial.
