Joseph S. Bayard, son of Henry M and Emma (Dixon) Bayard, was also born at the homestead at Victoria Furnace, November 14, 1853. He received his elementary education in private schools, and was then four years at Mrs. Crawford's Academy, near Frankford, Philadelphia. He then returned to the old homestead and has been" associated with the extensive business interests of the family to the present time.

Harrisburg, Pa.-January 10-Joseph Shipley Bayard , aged 55 years, son of the late Henry M. Bayard and a member of one of the most prominent families of Dauphin county, died yesterday after an extended illness. He was a first cousin of former Secretary of State Thomas F. Bayard, of Delaware.
