Betty Bartel White, age 87, of Richmond, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Judson Park in Cleveland, Ohio, where she has resided since August 2007. Born December 4, 1921, in Dayton, Ohio, to Walter K. and Glenna Minnick Bayley, she lived most of her life in Richmond. Betty was a 1943 graduate of Miami University. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Tri Delta Sorority, Richmond Art Museum Board, and Wayne County Health Board. Betty was a former member of the Garden Club and Forest Hills Country Club. She was an avid golfer, active in the civic and social life of the community, and had been active with the Republican Party. Survivors include her three sons, J. Christian Bartel and his wife Lin of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Thomas A. Bartel and his wife Debby of Richmond, and Peter K. Bartel and his wife Joan of Richmond; five granddaughters, Courtney Johnson (Ed), Lindsay Bartel, Laura Kim (Sid), Lesley Miller (Seth), and Allison Bartel; two grandsons, Clayton Bartel and Scott Bartel; three great-grandchildren, Oliver Johnson, Madeline Johnson, and Henry Johnson and one great-grandson, Collin Miller to be born; two brothers, Walker K. Bayley Jr. of Beaver Creek, Ohio and Frederick M. Bayley of Kettering, Ohio; nieces; nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Clayton G. Bartel, who died in 1970; and second husband, Corlis White, who died in 1991. Funeral service for Betty Bartel White will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at First English Lutheran Church, 2727 National Road East, Richmond with Pastor John Walker officiating. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the funeral service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009 at First English Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery, immediately following the service. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
