Alice B. Bastian, age 82, of Hanover, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, Elgin, Illinois, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2006 at the Hanover United Methodist Church, Hanover, Illinois. Friends may call from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover, Illinois. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover, Illinois. Alice was born December 6, 1923 in Galena, Illinois the daughter of Arthur and Cora (Young) Beadle. On August 8, 1943, Alice married Orville W. Bastian at the Galena United Methodist Church, Galena, Illinois; he passed away on March 12, 1989. She retired from the Savanna Army Depot in 1988, after working as an Inventory Specialist and Dispatcher. She first worked there during WWII, as many women did, providing a valuable labor force. She held membership in the Hanover VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Savanna Moose Lodge #1095, and NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees). Alice enjoyed many things, including square dancing, caring for her home, both inside and out, gardening, traveling and watching hummingbirds. She enjoyed the many trips spent with family and friends going to the Gambling Boats in Clinton, Dubuque, and Elgin. Most recently, she enjoyed watching the Food Network. Her pet poodle Sammy, had been her companion after the loss of her husband Orville. Surviving are three children, Jack Bastian, Hazel Green, Wis., V-Ann (David) Howard, Elgin, Ill. and Bob (Jolene) Bastian, Hanover, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Greg (Shelley) Bastian, Brian (Melissa) Bastian, Amy and Tara Howard, Casey, Chris, Brittany, Ryan and Nick Bastian; seven great-grandchildren, Abby and Alyanne Bastian, Breyana, Blake and Blair Bastian, Ben and Peyton Bastian. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, especially by her family and caretakers of recent years, Amy, Tara and V-Ann Howard. Through this care, she was able to achieve her wish of staying out of a nursing home. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville; two brothers, Allen and David Beadle and one sister, Violet Sanderson.
