Funeral for Joycetta Bear Elliott, 79, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Comanche Nation Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marilyn Bread officiating.
Joycetta went to be with the Lord with her family by her side on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012.
Burial will be at Mt. Scott KCA Cemetery under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.
Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Willie Jack Doyeto and the Rev. Sam Horse officiating.
She was born on June 3, 1933, at Kiowa Indian Hospital in Lawton, to Joy Calisay and William "Bill" Bear. She attended Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, graduating in 1952, and then attended Riverside Community College in Riverside, Calif., receiving an Associates of Arts Degree in Education.
She was a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma, Mt. Scott KCA United Methodist Church, past president of the Kiowa War Mothers, a two-term member of the Kiowa Business Committee, two-term Kiowa Tribal Hearing Board Member, served two terms of the Grand Jury of San Bernardino County, Calif., and also taught special education in Sacramento, Calif., and Riverside, Calif.
She was a devout Christian and active member of her faith for more than 65 years. She was very proud of her Christian participation in Rainy Mountain Baptist Church during her formative years, and after her marriage in 1954 she became an active member of First American Indian Church of Los Angeles, Calif.
She is survived by her husband, William Elliott, of 58 years, of the home; a son, William Van Elliott Jr. Portland, Ore; three daughters: Janis Joy and husband, Chris Hoyt, Concord, Calif., Kellie Lynn Elliott, New Haven, Conn., and Amy and husband, Russell Cozad, Anadarko; 12 grandchildren: Christopher (Lindsey), Stephen, Matthew Wondolowski, Kathryn Hoyt, Andrew (Michelle), Jonathon, Mathea Elliott, Kiowa,Chelsea, Tain Dupoint, Laura, Faith Cozad; four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Sandra Quetone, Meers, and Leona Johnson, Norman; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Joy Calisay and William Bear; and a brother, Henry Bear, and wife, Carol.
