Metalurgic engineer
Max Beard was a metalurgic engineer and was responsible for building Caterpillar Corporation's factory in Monterrey, Mexico, in the 1960s.
He was the son of George Irvin BEARD and Bernice GRIFFITH. He was the brother of Miles and Bruce.
He grew up in South Bend, Indiana, and graduated from South Bend Central High School before going to Purdue University. While at Purdue, he lived with his widowed grandmother on her farm in Owasco, Indiana, during the school year. During the summers, he worked at Oliver Corporation in South Bend. He married Mabel Ellen BENNITT in May 1942, in New Carlisle, Indiana, and graduated from Purdue with the Class of 1943. Max served as an officer in the U.S. Army during WW II; he was active duty from November 15, 1944 to November 10, 1946. After the War, he served in the Army Reserve.
Max was survived by his wife, their daughter and son, and a grandson and a granddaughter (children of his daughter).
