Jemima was the daughter of John BEARD (1794-1854) and his wife, Sophia MORE (1801-1879. Jemima was the sister of John M. Beard, Sarah Beard (Mrs. William Nice), Permilla Beard (Mrs. John Weldey), Mary Jane Beard (Mrs. John Mooney), Rachel Beard (Mrs. James St. John), William A. Beard, Eli Beard, and Alexander Beard. On September 7, 1856, she married Uriah K. BATES. She birthed four children: Emily Alice Bates (b. 1859), Sanford Eldridge Bates (b. 1861), Adam Williard Bates (b. 1863), and a son born December 19, 1857 (in Indiana). By 1880, she and her husband were living in White County, Indiana.
