LERONA — Billy Neal Beckett, 79, of the Rockin Chair Residential Care in Lerona, formerly of 479 Murdock St. and Bee Street in Princeton, died Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born in Bluefield, November 6, 1928, he was the son of the late James W. and Emma H. Gilkerson Beckett. He retired after 34 years of service with the Kroger Co. last serving as the meat department manager in the Princeton store. He was a member of Burke Memorial Baptist Church in Princeton. Billy was a graduate of Northfork High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was also a member of the West Virginia National Guard when they were activated during the Cuban crisis.

In addition to his parents, 10 brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hazel Trula Carter Beckett, who resided with him at the Rockin Chair Residential Care in Lerona; two sons, Billy P. Beckett and his wife Michelle of Peachtree City, Ga., and Gregory W. Beckett and his companion Ellen York of Princeton; five grandchildren, Ryan B. Beckett, Adam P. Beckett, Evan C. Beckett, Morgan G. Beckett and Kara M. Beckett; former daughter-in-law, Donna Sue Beckett of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Butch Honaker officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Park Cemetery in Princeton.

Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today (Monday, February 11, 2008).
