Billy Ray Beckett, aged 75, of Hurricane, entered into his Heavenly Father's arms on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at home surrounded by the love of his family. Born July 2, 1934, he was the son of the late Walter Beckett and Veda Martin Beckett. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Janice Meadows, Evelyn McCormick, Marg Ellis, Wanda Robertson; and brother, Walt Beckett.

A graduate of Hurricane High School, Class of 1952, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Bill was a member of Pipe Fitters Union, Nitro Local 656, and retired from Union Carbide/Rhone Poulenc. After his retirement he worked for several years delivering flowers, and his special smile, for Teays Valley Floral. He was a devoted and active member of Union Baptist Church in Milton, WV, and loved nothing more than sharing his love of the Lord with others. He was a former Hurricane City Council Member, Hurricane Police and Fire Commissioners, and was active in many roles in his church and community, including Minor and Little League Baseball, Cub and Boy Scouts, Midget League Football, and a host of other activities.

He is survived by his
beloved wife of 53 years, Helen L. Beaver Beckett;
sons, Michael R. Beckett (Scott) of Belle, Gregory M. Beckett (Candy) of Culloden;
daughters, Jennifer L. Burton (Will) of Hurricane, Hope Hinrichs (Keith) of Poca;
grandsons, Zachary R. Burton, Austin L. Hinrichs, and Mitchell C. Hinrichs;
sister, Emma Frances "Snook" Beaver of Hurricane;
half-sister, Pat Roof of Kankakee, IL.

Funeral Service at Chapman Funeral Home, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, WV with the Reverend Brent Beckett officiating. Burial at Valley View Memorial Park in Hurricane.
