Mary Elizabeth Coleman Beecher was the eldest child of well-known Pottstown merchant William Herr Beecher Sr. (1811-1875) and Elizabeth Mary Coleman. She first married Abraham Henry Alburger and following his accidental death in 1867, by the 1870 census she moved with her children (Jacob T., William B., John S., Abraham C., and Kathryn A.) into the home of her father-in-law, John Gerhard Alburger (1810-1879). Abraham's brother, William Henry Alburger, lived there too, and following the father's death in 1879, the 1880 census lists Mary Elizabeth as the wife of William Henry Alburger, living with her children by Abraham plus a new son, Harry, fathered by William Henry. A year later she died at the age of 43.
