Joan Beecher Ashburn, 72, of Shippensburg and formerly of Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle, died Monday June 27, 2011, at her home.
She was born June 30, 1938, in Hockersville, the daughter of the late Samuel Arnold and Elizabeth Jane Miller Beecher.
Mrs. Ashburn is survived by her husband, Doyle D. Ashburn II.
She was a 1961 graduate of Shippensburg State Teachers College.
She had worked in the Shippensburg Public Schools and retired from the Carlisle Early Education Center as a kindergarten teacher.
She belonged to Dickinson Presbyterian Church and Southampton Senior Center.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Rebecca A. Sheller and her husband Michael of Carlisle and Elizabeth A. Laird and her husband Jesse Laird IV of Shippensburg; one son, Doyle D. Ashburn III and his wife Janel M. of Selinsgrove; seven grandchildren, Zachariah, Joshua and Kathryn Sheller, Jesse Laird V and James Laird, and Jett and Caleb Ashburn; two great-grandchildren, Addyson and Avery Sheller; four sisters, Margaret Widney, Mary Frengel, Nancy Sommerville and Rebecca Gallucci; and one brother, Richard Beecher.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Beecher; and one sister, Leona Beecher.
The family will receive friends Saturday on July 2 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Dickinson Presbyterian Church Parish Hall. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of the church with the Rev. Jeanette Mater officiating.
A reception will follow the service at the Silver Cup Lounge at the Cumberland Golf Club, 2395 Ritner Highway, Carlisle.
