Winston-Salem, N.C.--Adelaide M. Greiner Behan, 88, of Erie, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at Wake Forest University--Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born Feb. 25, 1909, in Erie, daughter of the late J. George and Marian Greiner.
Mrs. Behan who was a 1933 graduate of Villa Maria College was an Erie School District kindergarten teacher before her retirement. She worked in the family business, the Avenue Penn Grocery and Penn Valley Variety Store, for many years.
As a young woman she worked at the Lake Shore Visitor, the newspaper of the Erie Catholic Diocese, as a secretary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin C. Behan, in 1994; they were married in 1940.
Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Marjorie Timon Devine and Geraldine Hicks, and a brother Regis Greiner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, W. 24th and Sassafras streets, on Monday, Dec 29, at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at St. Teresa Cemetery in Union City.
Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Scholarship, Gannon University, 109 University Square, Erie, Pa., 16541.
Hayworth Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
