Jill Ann Bell-Adkins, age 70, of Mattoon passed away at 3:56 a.m. on Saturday, April, 30 2016 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center after battling cancer since November of 2013.

Funeral services for family and friends will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Hutchens officiating. Burial will follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016 at the funeral home. An additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Jill was born on March 13, 1946 in St. Louis, MO the daughter of James Hampton and Marian (Storm) Bell. She married Randy Adkins on June 23, 1990.

Survivors include her loving husband of 25 years, Randy Adkins of Mattoon, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins; adopted special friends, Janice and Duane Carlyle; Randy’s family members who welcomed Jill into their family; special schnauzer companions, Aspen, Summit and Finn; special feline companion, Spencer. Jill was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jack.

Jill was a 1964 graduate of Mattoon High School. She received two masters’ degrees from Eastern Illinois University. She taught first grade for 35 years in the same classroom at Lincoln Elementary and two years at Williams Elementary. Jill was a former member of the Jaycees and the Mattoon Education Association and a current member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association as well as the Coles County Retired Teachers Association. Jill was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens, quilting, reading and also enjoyed shopping at QVC. Jill treasured her summers spent at her cabin in Cripple Creek, CO. Most of all, Jill loved spending time with her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Jill’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Sarah Bush Cancer Center and also the doctors, nurses and staff on the third floor.

Memorial donations in her honor are suggested to Sarah Bush Cancer Center or the Coles County Animal Shelter.
