Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen's Church in Streator. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Streator. Pallbearers will be grandchildren: Edward and Richard Novotney; Stephen and Michael Grossen; and Thomas and Joseph Winn. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters: Terri Sprout and Tammy Winn. Full military rites will be conducted graveside by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
He was born July 25, 1918 in Streator, a son of Stephen and Clara (Lukach) Bellis. He married Evelyn P. Falk on June 27, 1940 at Immaculate Conception Church. She died October 2, 2000.
He is survived by daughters: Patricia Novotney and Marion (Terry) Grossen, both of Streator and Junitta (Thomas) Winn of Texas; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sisters: Ann Yendro and Mary Lippold, both of Streator.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three great-grandchildren; a son-in-law: Edward Novotney; and sisters: Evelyn Hatzer and Frances Soltis.
He was raised in Streator and attended St. Stephen's school. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He owned and operated Bellis Construction, retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Stephen's Church, Carpenters Union and a life member of the American Legion.
