Helen Beattie Hammond Benedum, 90, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 at Messiah Village.

Born May 18, 1921 in Kearneysville, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Bates Hammond and Laura Annetta (White) Hammond.

Helen received her Associates Degree from Shepherd College.

She was a former secretary for the federal government in Washington, District of Columbia, during World War II, the Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital and the Fish and Game Commission in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Helen was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsburg and was a former member of Olivet Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg, the church's Women's Association, the Olivet Circle and served as a Sunday School teacher.

She was a member of the West Shore Coterie and Pinnacle Health Auxiliary.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband: George D. Benedum, Jr. and by two brothers: ohn and William Hammond.

She is survived by her two daughters: Judith J. Brodovicz and husband Ben of Mechanicsburg, Barbara B. Rowe and husband Ronald E. Rowe, Jr. of Enola; and, two grandchildren: Brandon Christopher Rowe and Allison Elizabeth Rowe.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Monday, February 20, 2012 at St. James Presbyterian Church, 1425 Orr's Bridge Road, Mechanicsburg with viewing held from 09:30 to 11:30 AM.

Burial will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
