Lead Daily Call newspaper, Thursday, July 7, 1921, Page 1: DIED OF HIS INJURIES. Johnny Bennett Passed Away at Casper, Wyoming, This Morning.
This morning a telegram was received from Mrs. Johnny Bennett, dated at Casper, stating that her husband had passed away. Several weeks ago there had been an accident at the work Midwest company, a scaffolding on which a number of men was working falling to the ground. Mr. Bennett was among the workmen, several of whom were badly injured, as being among the worst. One of his legs was so badly mangled that it was necessary to amputate it. Before he received medical assistance he had lost so much blood that he was left in a weakened condition, and when it became imperative that his leg should be amputated the operation was performed as a last resort. For a time he rallied, but the shock proved too great for his weakened system to recover from, and early this morning the end came.
Johnny Bennett for many years had been a resident of Lead, where he was well known and liked by a very large circle of acquaintances. He married Miss Margaret Reagan of Lead about eighteen years ago, who was with him at the time of his death. A son, now aged 16, came to bless the union, and is now a resident of Lead, having arrived in the city a few days ago from Butte, where he graduated from the High school of that city. He was on his way to see his father but fate did not allow him the opportunity for which he so intensely longed. Deceased was a cousin of William Andrews. To his wife and son and other relatives the sympathy of many will be extended.
Funeral services for the deceased will be held in Lead, his body to be brought back to the city, where for most of his life he had lived, for interment.
