Ernest Eugene ‘Gene’ Bennett, 88, of Rosedale WV passed away at home after a long illness on May 6, 2013.
He was born July 17, 1924, the son of the late Eustace Ray and Rosa Mae Ellyson-Bennett of Mill Fork, Rosedale, WV.

Gene is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Ethel Maxine Bennett; a sister, Naomi Ruth; two brothers, Forrest Brooks and Jesse Clyde Bennett; one son, Danny Carmel McCumbers; two grandchildren, Dawn McCumbers and Anita Cook; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Rosalea Marks-Bennett(Larry).

Gene was a Baptist by faith. He enjoyed working horses. He loved all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gene was retired from the WV State Road Dept. in Gassaway, Braxton County WV.

He is survived by his four loving children and daughter-in-law, Kathy (Danny, son deceased) McCumbers, Larry (Susan) Bennett, Nina (Jerden) Cook, Doyle (Joyce) Bennett and Marvin (Belinda) Bennett; 11 loving grandchildren, Dannielle (Dave) Lilly, Nicole (Rick) Cottrell, Jason (Danielle) McCumbers, Melinda Bailey, Ernie (Amanda) Bennett, Robin (Scott) Bourn, Quintin (Raeanna) Cook, Jessica (Justin) Carter, Cody Bennett, Shad (Rebecca) Adkins, Chassidy ‘Sis’ Mollohan; 14 loving great grandchildren, Zach Lilly, Chelsie McCumbers, Gabby Cottrell, Hayden Bailey, Chase Bailey, Logan Bennett, Novalee Bennett, Shayla Bourn, Ashlyn Bourn, Elijah Bourn, Summer Bourn, James Cook, Blake Adkins, and Shayla Adkins.

He will be deeply loved and missed forever and always. The family would like to give special thanks to Vicki Carter for all of her help, love and support and to Nicole Cottrell for all they’ve done for us.

Funeral services will be held Thursday May 9, 2013, 1:00 pm at the Beech Grove Baptist Church at Nicut with Rev. Gary Maynor officiating. Visitation will be held at the Stump Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 pm and at the Beech Grove Baptist Church Thursday from 12:00 until the time of the services.
