Susan was born in Madison, Wisconsin, the oldest child of Rae Murchison Bennett and Helen Lundstrom Bennett. She grew up in Silver Bay, Minnesota, where she graduated from Silver Bay HS in 1961. After obtaining her BA from St Olaf College in 1965, she moved to NYC where she attended Pratt Institute and worked in the publishing industry. An accomplished artist, Susan wrote and illustrated two children's books of her own as well as providing the illustrations for several other children's books.
After marrying George Batori, an architect, Susan spent many years as an expatriate in Rome and London. Susan's fiber sculptures graced luxury hotels in Dubai and they won Best of Show at the Winter Park Art Festival in 1974. She was an accomplished musician who played the piano, flute, piccolo and harp. An avid reader, Susan completed the NY Times crossword puzzle daily, in ink.
Susan was an eight-year employee of Lukas Nursery in Orlando FL which was a point of pride and a joy to her. She loved the Lukas family and they were wonderful to her.
Left to cherish her memory are her brothers Mark Bennett and his partner Mary Jo Corbett of Orlando, FL and Thomas R Bennett and his wife Teresa Swift of San Francisco, CA, nieces Mia, Robin, and Christina Bennett, many loving friends, and Mister Puss, her most recent loved stray cat.
A celebration of life for Susan will take place on Saturday, March 2. Contact Dove Funeral Home for more information. Interrment will take place at Greenwood Cemetary.
