Oneida Bennett " Mema" Allen, 88, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. EDT Saturday, March 28, 2009 in Culley's MeadowWood Timberlane Road Chapel (850-893-4177), with interment to follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, March 27th, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice, 1545 Raymond Diehl Rd. Suite 102, Tallahassee, FL 32308. Mrs. Allen was born to Melvin O. Sr. and Myrtle Boseman Bennett on August 8, 1920 in Moultrie, Ga. In 1932 the family moved to Tallahassee. Oneida graduated from Leon High School in 1938. She married Floyd M. Allen, Sr. March 11, 1939. Mrs. Allen worked as a Telephone Operator for many years and as a Nanny for several doctor's and lawyer's children in Tallahassee. Mrs. Allen was a resident of Magnolia Place Assisted Living Facility for 7 years. She loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She is survived by two children, daughter, Barbara A. Smith (George Edward) of Tallahassee; and son, Floyd (F.M.) Allen Jr. (Carlene) of North Carolina; brothers, Melvin O. Bennett Jr. of Tallahassee and Wayne Bennett (Sissy) of North Carolina; grandchildren, Eddie Smith (Tommy) of Atlanta, Ga., Ron Smith (Susan) of Wisconsin, Rick Smith (Michelle) and Diane Barrett (Shawn) both of Tallahassee and Barbara Allen Jenkins of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter; one sister-in-law, Opal Bennett and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd M. Allen Sr.; her parents, Melvin O. Sr. and Myrtle Bennett; a sister, Bonnie Jo; and a brother, Robert G. Bennett.
