Alice Margaret Jacobson was born April 12, 1906 in Rowena, South Dakota to parents Annie Louise Swanson Jacobson (2-25-1868 to 4-2-1951) and Phillip John Jacobson (10-18-1865 to 8-31-1950). Alice was baptized at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church, rural Valley Springs, South Dakota where she attended Sunday school. She was also confirmed there on September 25, 1921 by Reverend Laurell.

Alice grew up with eleven siblings on the family farm where she tended to cows, cats, chickens and slopped pigs. She also recalled pulling cockleburs. In her words "I did all the things that kids used to do on the farm".

Alice loved playing ball with all her brothers. She had the opportunity to play hardball, softball, and basketball as a young child. She said she was not sure that she had ever hit a tennis ball and that this was probably the only ball that she had not hit in her lifetime.

Alice played on the high school basketball team and graduated in 1924 from Brandon High School.

She married Virgil Herbert Bennett on February 10, 1935 at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church. They lived in the Larchwood area until 1950 when they moved to her parents' farm south of Rowena. They lived at the Jacobson farm from 1950-1968 when they moved to Valley Springs.

Virgil and Alice were avid bowlers and were awarded 36 trophies between them that Alice proudly displayed in her home. She continued to bowl well into her nineties with an average score of 110.

Virgil and Alice built their home at 908 Sunnyside Avenue in Valley Springs and moved there in 1969 while Virgil continued to farm until he died, April 6, 1976. Alice continued to make this her home on her own until 2003. At the age of 97, she sold her home on her own to a friend and neighbor and moved into an independent living apartment at Bethany Meadows Senior Living Community in Brandon, South Dakota where she enjoyed life independently until her death.
