June 25, 1977. Mrs. Bentsen's Services Set. McAllen, Texas (UPI) -- Funeral services were scheduled Saturday for Edna Ruth Bentsen, 78, wife of South Texas rancher-banker Lloyd Bentsen Sr. and mother of Sen. Lloyd Bentsen Jr., D-Texas. Mrs. Bentsen died Thursday at Houston following a brief illness. Known as "Dolly," Mrs. Bentsen was born Sept. 6, 1898, in Somerset, Texas, near San Antonio, the daughter of pioneer South Texas Colbath family. She was reared by grandparents in Dilley, Texas, following the death of her mother and met her future husband in Mission where she was doing volunteer Red Cross work. Other survivors include her daughter, Mrs. R. Dan Winn of McAllen; two other sons, Donald Bentsen of McAllen and Kenneth Bentsen of Houston, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were scheduled at the First Baptist Church of McAllen at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
