Frances Bassett, East Bloomfield
Frances B. Bassett, 96, one of East Bloomfield's oldest residents, died Tuesday, May 30, following a long illness.
Born in Mendon, May 24, 1871, the daughter of William (sic/Thomas) and Harriet Park Bergin, she moved with the family to Michigan at the age of one
year. Due to ill health, she returned two years later and made her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. & Mrs. Millard Parmele in this village. She spent the remainder of her life here with the exception of a short period in British
Columbia after her marriage to the late Toplady Bassett.
A practical nurse she was employed for several years at the Ontario County Tuberculosis Hospital in Oakmount Avenue here before it was moved to Mount Morris. She later did general practice.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church.
Mrs. Bassett is survived by two nieces, Mrs. L. O. Frick and Mrs. Lyda Hartwig, both of Goodrich. Michigan, and several cousins, including Harmon A. Parmele of East Bloomfield. A half-brother Floyd Bergin died last week in Michigan.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 2 p. m. from the Wheeler Funeral Home, South Avenue, with the Rev. Roy F. Gamble, retired former pastor of the First Congregational Church officiating. Burial was In East Bloomfield Cemetery.
