She was born on January 6, 1945 in Cambridge, MA; the daughter of Albert J. Doyon and Eva (Martin) Doyon. Raised the 3rd of 4 children in Somerville, MA, Alice graduated from Somerville High School in 1963. After graduation she worked as a legal assistant at Choate Hall & Stewart in Boston. She married David E. Berkeley in 1965, and started a family soon thereafter, moving to Chelmsford, MA in 1968. A dedicated mother, she focused on raising her children during their formative years, sharing her love of gardening, the ocean, and the importance of family time.
Alice worked at the Lowell Humane Society for many years, and later became a certified real estate, antique, and jewelry appraiser, working for R.P. Durkin & Company in Boston. She was a GIA-Certified Gemologist and was a member of the American Society of Appraisers. Later, after moving to Centerville in Cape Cod, she worked for Pilgrim Hospitality and Cape Cod Adventures. Alice loved to exercise, walk, go to the beach, and practice yoga. There is nothing she cherished more, though, than spending time with her family.
Alice is survived by David, her former spouse of 28 years, who remained her friend throughout her life; her son Alan and wife Annette; her daughter Wendy and husband Michael; her grandchildren Sydney, Jasper and Ivy; siblings Rose, J. Albert, and Richard; as well as her nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends, including her friends and caretakers at Carriage Hill Assisted Living.
A private memorial service and celebration of Alice's life will be held June 3, 2017 at Gray's Beach in Yarmouthport, MA. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville, MA.
Flowers are welcome at the time of the service, or may be sent to 1 Center St, Yarmouthport, MA 02675. Memorial contributions may be made in the name of Alice M. Berkeley to one of several organizations searching for cures, such as the Alzheimer's Association, the Fisher Center, or the Dementia Society of America
