Mrs. Fannie Berkeley Barham died Sunday, May 22, in Sarah Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, in her 69th year. She was born in Hanover County, Va., January 8, 1858, the daughter of Edmund and Susan Berkeley, and was married to Dr. William Blount Barham of News, Va., May 4, 1881. To this union were born two children, Mrs. James A. Grizzard of Drewryville and Mrs. James M. Smith of Big Stone Gap, Va. Her husband and both daughters survive her, besides several grandchildren.

She united with the Episcopal Church when quite young; joining St. Luke's Church in Courtland and remaining a member there until several years ago she moved to Big Stone Gap and united with the Episcopal Church of that town, being a faithful and loyal communicant until her death.

"Gran" Barham, as she was known to many of her friends, was a beautiful type of Christian womanhood, a loyal wife and other, always putting the God she loved and served first and never failing to read her Bible and go to God in prayer each day of her life. She was loved and esteemed by all who knew her and her face radiated all that was lovely and pure for which she always stood and lived. Her vacancy cannot be filled in the hearts of those who so greatly loved and admired her. In no more silently eloquent a way could her popularity have been shown than by the beautiful floral designs that covered her grave, and by the large number of sorrowing friends who stood by to pay their last tribute of respect to her memory. Her life was an inspiration to those who came in contact with her to live clean, noble, honest lives, both towards their God and fellowman.

The funeral services were conducted in Drewryville M.E. Church by Dr. E.S. Darling of Christ Church, Emporia, assisted by Rev. A.K. Lambdin of Capron. The old hymns "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" and "Rock of Ages" which she loved and memorized, were sung by the choir, Mrs. Peter Thomas sang as a solo, "In The Upper Garden." The body was then borne to Drewryville cemetery, where the burial services were continued, "Asleep in Jesus" was sung by the choir. The body bearers were: John B. Darden, Jr., of Newsoms, S.R. Harding of Emporia, R.N. Darden of Newsoms, B.W. Sebrell, Jr., and B.F. Walton of Lawrenceville, Anton Smith of Petersburg and L.M. Manry of Courtland. The honorary pallbearers were: Doctors E.A. de Bordenave, R.H. Cobb, J.C. Rawls and W.H. Arthur of Franklin, Jno. W. Smith and E.L. Boone of Branchville, B.A. Pope of Newsoms, J.N. Applewhite of Capron and E.F. Reese of Courtland; R.A. Pope, A.P. Pope, B.S. Turner, J.W. Claud, Peter Thomas, S.P. Johnson, John P. Fox, Jesse Lee, Henry T. Grizzard, H.E. Grizzard, M.D. Grizzard, A.G. Perry, S.T. Lanier, C.D. Cobb, C.E. Cobb, Prof. J.S. Duff, F.E. Pope, Willie Joyner, C.L. Newsome, W.A. Partridge, John Starke, Gillette Claud, V.R.
